A quick discussion on incentives.

I just finished “Slugfest” by Reed Tucker. It’s about the 50 year war between the Comic book companies of DC and Marvel. As an avid comic book fan I found it to be a very compelling read, it was the overlap of two of my favorite things, super heroes and business.

When reading the book, you realized how much they under-value the creator of the characters and stories. These artists drift between companies, because neither of them have set up a great incentives system, and when one of them improves the incentives system, the other one copies because the talent flocks to the one with the better system.

They went from freelancers to co-owners of the sales.

There are so many other industries where this type of behavior remains true, where the creator of something is undervalued in reference to the value to the end user.

Do you think that there will be a contractor website like Upwork or Fiverr that will automatically share the royalties of the built products with the builder?

Where are there other industries where this type of behavior takes place?

Where the incentives are clear and best, the talent will flow.
