I completed a 4 days fast.
I am failing at starving.
I did a 5 day fast, just water. Day 2 was hard. Day 3 was easy. Day 4 was ok just really tired. Day 5 was terrible, just couldn't wait to eat. :)

For me the environment is very important, it is easier when I am away from home or even living somewhere else. Another factor is stress, if you are under pressure the cortisol can be very high and it can be counterproductive.
Environment and context definitely have a huge impact on my diet. In some ways I was using the fast to hard reset my environmental habits.
