Naming something a human can't fathom is the early process of fathoming it, thus exploration doesn't just happen in boats and spaceships, exploration starts with questions, love it!
What if the Universe is filled with consciousness?
Science says 5% of the Universe is matter visible to the naked eye, 20% is detectible through sensors, and the remaining 75% we know exists only through inference, meaning we have absolutely no idea what it is
My first thought when reading "something that humans cannot fathom that exists" was universal consciousness.
Last week, in response to my friend's incredulity that plants could have consciousness, I told him consciousness is all around us, it's everywhere, we just are not conscious enough to recognize it.
We are curious creatures, in both senses. One day, we will find it/feel it/sense it.
I've always thought that ancient humans knew this somehow, and tried to express it as best they could through words like God/Mother Earth/Spirit World/fill-in-the-blank-religion-belief
It's an exciting time now with science starting to point in the same direction
Galileo was locked up for years for fathoming the previously unfathomable...and he fathomed correctly
I agree, waiting 12 years for the 3rd book of "The Name of the Wind" is ridiculous..... What does he think we are....Cub fans? I may need to go back and read the first two again to remember the story.
On the other hand, Robert Jordan wrote 14 super long books in his "Wheel of Time" series....I'm on number 8...which is another kind of ridiculous.

RIGHT! My friend stopped at 8. Pretty amazing to keep people engaged through 8 books!
Plus the prequel and 2 companions lol
