The Silicon Valley Bank situation covered the news cycle last week, and some very important news was over-looked. Starfish Space, founded by Austin Link and Trevor Bennett, raised $14m from some amazing partners. Starfish builds space tug boats. They might not want me to call it that - but their goal is to service satellites with their deployment of satellite servicing vehicles… like a tug boat for space.
Excited to have Munich-RE, PSL, NFX and MaC Ventures in this investment!
Austin and Trevor joined Boost VC in the heart of the Covid lockdown. We didn’t meet Austin in person until a year later, and I don’t think I met Trevor in person until a month ago. But our investment in Starfish proved you can build friendships and partnerships on the internet. They did this same playbook with others too!
They joined every Space related network they could. They used Covid to their advantage. As everything moved online, they were able to be efficient in building their network and their products. The ingenuity of this team is their super power. Space is hard to build for, and to build credibility in but they have won contract, awards, grants to show their progress, and now it’s paying off with $14m in fresh funding.
The idea of building a tug boat for space was ridiculous three years ago (Some of you may still believe it to be a little… Sci-Fi). However, in the last 12 months Boost VC has seen many teams target this market. We love investing in companies building new markets, and that is the journey we continue on with Austin and Trevor!
We are very excited for the universe to get a little better in space.
This is huge, congrats
I want to be the captain of a tug boat for spaceships now. That’d be a great character for a comic :)
