On a scientific note, completely agree stem cells are amazing. They have no analog in engineering - there’s no part or subsystem that can morph into any and all parts and supersystems.
A lot of the miracles of stem cells are also found in autologous cell therapies, which can’t be made from stem cells alone since making our immune cells typically requires filtering out those that attack our own bodies. Once immune cells clear the hurdle of not attacking self, they become a starting point for so many cool mods, and even artificial selection for improved efficacy against hard and possibly patient-specific targets (e.g. every patient’s cancer may have a unique tell… can we train T cells to target each patient’s tumor? Could this outperform genetic CAR-T cells?)
