In the next 15 years, in the top 10 wealthiest humans - One will be a Scientist, One will be an artist and one will be a teacher.
In 2017, there was a great post written by Joel Monegro called the Fat Protocol Thesis. It explained that crypto currency networks have the potential to flip where the value is captured - Protocol layer vs. Application layer.
In todays world, the protocol is TCP/IP, the rails the internet runs on, however applications like Google, Facebook, and Netflix have been able to capture more value than the creators of the internet. Joel posits that this will change through crypto protocols, and the new incentives structure of βTokens.β The internet would be able to capture more value than Google, Facebookβ¦
In addition to what Joel wrote, I believe that tokens will flip how the incentives of all institutions work by creating a separate space for them to align. What do I mean by that?
The value (money) of the science created by scientists in academia is not captured by the creators. They are the neglected creator class. The academic institutions and scientific publishers (Journals) capture a majority of the value in this market. In addition, some companies capture value if they commercialize the science.
Tokens have the potential to have Scientists capture the value they added to a piece of science, without commercializing it themselves. This is really what the Decentralizing Science movement is about β Changing the value capture mechanism to get the best science to come to the top. Reward the best.
Dear Adam,
As a 4th grade teacher, undergraduate architecture studio instructor, Harvard graduate school of education teaching fellow, architect, designer, and of course, and most importantly, a Boost.VC founder from T14 - I agree.
Exchanges capitalize on transaction volume.
Transaction volume is a potential outcome of iteration.
Iteration (version control) captures knowledge.
The fastest way to iterate, ipso facto, produce knowledge, is to draw. [Artist]
The best artist is one who has mastered craft and technique over a lifetime. [time]
One of the best artists in America is Doug Cooper. You can see his work at the University Center in Carnegie Mellon.
That building will remain standing long after Professor Cooper passes - the art will remain. [Architecture as Art / Architect as Artist]
